Cattle Council is calling for beef producers to air their concerns about the language used to describe Australian beef.
David Hill, Cattle Council board member and Central Queensland producer, emphasised the importance of producers providing feedback to the process.
“The beef language influences how you get paid, the discounts you receive, the way we cut and describe the carcase and how we label product in retail,” Mr Hill said.
“If you have any problems or suggestions on how we can make the Australian Beef Language better for beef producers, you should provide a submission to the Australian Beef Language White Paper by 31 December 2014.
“Producer experience and case studies of the current beef language process will help to shape the future of beef language.
“The White Paper will consider existing and potential new descriptors at each stage in the red meat pipeline, covering production, processing, wholesaling, retailing, consumption and future societal and government requirements.
“It will also develop a range of future language options and propose a preferred option for industry consideration.
“Cattle Council is preparing a submission to the White Paper and welcomes feedback. Cattle Council will also provide support to producers who are writing individual submissions,” said Mr Hill.
